The Lakeview FFA Forestry Team recently placed 1st in the FFA Forestry Invitational Career Development Event. The event was held at the Wesley Center in Woodworth, on Sept. 14. There were a total of 45 teams representing 21 schools from across the state.

The Forestry Career Development Event allows students to demonstrate their knowledge in managing forests and forest inventory and applying approved silviculture practices. Within the contest, members are required to identify species of trees, including the ones that affect Louisiana’s economy, tools that are used in the forest industry, estimate board feet of standing timber, give legal descriptions of land parcels, and use industry standards to execute timber stand improvements. Team members included Tyler Sullivan, who scored 435 total points, placing him 1st individually. Cadie Coleman, who scored 433 total points, placing her 2nd individually. Mason Harper, who scored 418 points, placing her 9th individually.Together, they scored a grand total of 1,286 points out of the possible 1,530.
