Hard Freeze Warning/Wind Chill Advisory in effect through Wednesday morning

Dangerous Travel Conditions are expected tonight through much of Wednesday. A Hard Freeze Warning remains in effect from 8 pm tonight to 10 am Wednesday morning for all of the Ark-La-Tex. A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect from 8 pm tonight to 10 AM Wednesday morning for all of the Ark-La-Tex.

Timing and Overview:

Areas of light snow will be ending late this afternoon over Deep East Texas and the southern sections of Northcentral Louisiana. Although some melting of the snow and ice has occurred this afternoon especially on the well-traveled roads, a clearing sky will allow for temperatures to quickly fall into the teens and lower 20s this evening, allowing for areas of black ice to redevelop on roadways, bridges, and overpasses, which will linger through much of Wednesday as temperatures will struggle to reach freezing. Here is a Special Weather Statement issued earlier this afternoon concerning the black ice potential:

Temperatures will fall further into the lower and middle teens areawide tonight, resulting in a hard freeze areawide. Thus, a Hard Freeze Warning remains in effect tonight through 10 am Wednesday. In addition, north winds around 10 mph will result in wind chill readings in the single digits areawide tonight through Wednesday morning. A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect areawide.

Four State Impacts:

Impacts: Travel will become very treacherous tonight through much of Wednesday on many primary and secondary roadways, bridges and overpasses. Be sure exposed pipes are wrapped, bring pets inside, and ensure that those that do not have adequate heating have a means to keep warm.
