The downtown Natchitoches Farmer’s Market was a sea of NSU purple Saturday, Nov. 3 as several NSU student organizations such as the pom line, baseball team, and African American Caucus volunteered their services at the market. There were games for the children hosted by the NSU baseball team as well as the market’s signature crafts and homegrown foods at booths manned by student volunteers.
The NSU Rowing Team also held their fundraising Erg-a-Thon at the Farmer’s Market. NSU Rowing Crew has been a fixture of our community for over 25 years. The rowers on the picturesque Cane River are one of the things that makes our community special. The Erg-a-Thon is their annual fundraiser in which the rowers use ergometers to simulate rowing a certain distance. Team supporters in turn donate to the crew as certain distance milestones are reached. One of the rowers was kind enough to let the Natchitoches Parish Journal try out the machine. It is much harder than it looks, to put it mildly!
This tradition of community involvement is a hallmark of the NSU student experience. The Natchitoches Parish Journal wishes the teams success in their upcoming seasons and all the best to the superb young men and women who are a welcome part of our community during their stay at NSU. Fork ’em Demons!
