NCHS Veterans Day Program honors military service

As the school band played the Armed Forces Medley, Veterans entered a student filled gymnasium through a archway of swords held by JROTC students for the Veterans Day Program at Natchitoches Central High School Nov. 9.

After the Color Guard presented the colors, the NCHS Orchestra played the Star Spangled Banner. C/1LT Kolby Norris led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance and C/1LT Aryana Watson-Mitchell led everyone in a moment of silence.

Principal Bill Gordy welcomed the patriotic crowd of visitors and students. Vocalists C/CPT Emily Nobles, C/SSG Amariah Green, C/SSG Adalyn Flores, C/PVT Saria Calhoun, C/PVT Kristiana Craig, C/PVT Ciara Robinson, and C/PVT Shantiana Mathes sand America the Beautiful.

Nobles, C/CPT Destiny Lofton, C/CPT Destiny Snow, C/LTC Aaliyah Edmonson, and C/MAJ Akilah Farris gave presentations on the history of WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War.

The NCHS Band played “Going Home” and the JROTC Chiefs performed. The JROTC Cadets then performed God Bless America and the JROTC Slap Team put on a show.

The keynote speaker was LTC Wendell F. Bender.
