NATCHITOCHES BIKE/PED PLAN, BIKESHARE STUDY SEEKS COMMUNITY FEEDBACK

Natchitches— The Rapides Area Planning Commission and Bantam Strategy Group were hired several months ago to create a city-wide Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan and to study the feasibility and implementation of a bikeshare system serving Natchitoches and Northwestern University. Community feedback is imperative to this planning process and study so there are several ways to provide your input.

RAPC and Bantam Strategy Group are working through a process which includes several layers of quantitative and qualitative factors to determine the feasibility of a regional bikeshare system. Gathering input from local citizens is part of this effort. Citizens are encouraged to check out the interactive map at http://www.natchitochesbikeshare.com/community-input and place markers and notes regarding desired locations for potential bikeshare stations. They may also provide additional input using the online survey provided on the website.

Additionally, public outreach meetings will be held on Thursday, Jan. 31 at two locations.

Northwestern State University for students and faculty from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the Student Union Lobby
Public General Meeting for citizens of Natchitoches from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Natchitoches Municipal Building, 560 2nd St., Natchitoches, LA 71457

“The feedback from the residents of Natchitoches is an integral part of the bike/ped and bikeshare evaluation and we’d ideally like to capture voices from the citizens and students at-large,” said Lindsey G. West, President and CEO of Bantam Strategy Group. “Valuable input is collected using the interactive map, online survey and during the public meetings, the results of this information will be used and recorded in the final plans for this area.”

This study was made possible by a collaborative partnership between the City of Natchitoches, Northwestern State University, and Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD).

  1. It is too dangerous to ride a bike in this town. For one thing we have horrible drivers who go on red lights and sit there on green. We have drivers who think nothing of cutting in front of you and across your path, which is failure to yield the right-of-way. And most of this is courtesy of those in pick-up trucks. You know who they are, you can hear their pipes two miles away.

The police in this town is a joke. So, all you thinking that a painted logo of a bike and painted white line is going to keep you safe from these predatorial jerks in big trucks, good luck with that.

  2. what a stupid idea .I can only imagine how much tax payer money

  3. USELESS! WASTE OF MORE MONEY THATS NEEDED ELSEWHERE! COME ON CITY LEADERS GIVE US A BREAK! FIX WHAT NEEDS FIXING FIRST!!!! PLEASE FIX THE STREETS!!!!

  4. It would be a great day, if we could put the energy into roads and schools that we put in a swimming pools, bikes and ball fields, etc.

  5. This proposed project is truly a boon doggle . It is a waste of money. Ask the business owners and residents of Alexandria, not the politicians
