A Natchitoches man was arrested on felony drug charges on Monday evening, Feb. 18, after several motorists reporting him walking on Hwy. 6 West near Hagewood according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

NPSO Patrol Division deputies responded to reports of a man walking along Hwy. 6 West near Hagewood at 8:59 pm.

The motorists reported the man was walking in dark clothing and they were concerned for his safety due to recent crashes involving pedestrians.

Deputies arrived on scene at approximately 9:13pm and made contact with the man identified as Tommy Hayes, 48 of Natchitoches.

Deputies were going to assist Hayes by transporting him to a destination of his choice near Natchitoches, however, they asked for permission to search his person before transporting him for officer safety.

During a search of his person, deputies seized a syringe and a bag of suspected methamphetamine.

Hayes was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center and charged with Possession of CDS Schedule II Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Hayes remains in the detention center awaiting bond.

Deputies say Hayes admitted he purchased the suspected methamphetamine for personal use.

Deputy C. Olliff and Sgt. M. Robertson made the arrest.
