In the midst of thunderstorms and flooding in Natchitoches Parish, the Krewe of Excellence held its inaugural theme announcement mixer on Sunday evening, April 7, for members of the organization and invited guests.
“A Night of Stars on Bourbon Street,” was unveiled by ball committee members from easels flanking the room, touting the 2020 ball and Mardi Gras season theme for the krewe.
“Columbian Express,” a musical combo comprised of students from Columbia that attend Northwestern State University, provided various musical offerings as revelers and friends savored food items, enjoyed beverages and and viewed a well decorated table sharing clues to the anticipated announcement of the theme. Krewe member Lamarr McGaskey Sr. presented several genres of recorded music for continued visiting and dancing for all in attendance.
The announced theme will lend its name to many individuals, organizations and businesses as a star or stars, promoting growth in Natchitoches and beyond.
Outgoing float captain and former queen (2018), Cathy McClinton Chester was recognized by Krewe President Victor Pinkney Sr. for her outstanding, innovative and continuous efforts as float captain. “She repeatedly made it happen,” Pinkney said.
Cloyd Benjamin served as the lead coordinator for the event.
