DOTD to hold public meeting for Cane River Bridge replacement project

The Louisiana Department and Transportation and Development in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is conducting a public hearing for the proposed replacement of Cane River Bridge on Church Street Route LA 1-X located in Natchitoches Parish.

The meeting details are as follows:

4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

The purpose of the open-house style public hearing is to present an overview of the project, alternatives studied, the preferred alternative, and impacts from the project.

A continuous multi-media presentation will be shown, and informational handouts, maps, and graphic displays will be available at the public hearing. Representatives from LADOTD and its consultants will be at the open house to answer questions and discuss issues related to the project.

Verbal comments can be recorded, and written statements can be submitted at the meeting. Written statements can also be mailed to the address shown below, postmarked no later than December 20, 2019 to be included in the public hearing transcript.

  1. I wonder why in all these years the city never built another bridge ?
    if you hit either bridge around 5 traffic is backed up bad and the lights are slow.Mostly why I avoid going to town at all due to traffic.

  2. What ever you build in its place, keep it within the nostalgic theme of Historic Natchitoches architecture and do not construct a modern looking structure in its place. Tourist come from all over to see the old historic look of days long ago. Lots of memories across that old bridge. And do not make it a toll – that’s what the Northerners do to rob the working people – keep that in New York City! Besides it will mean less money spent in the shops for the merchants, economic prosperity is main priority. Make the bridge a jewel on the river and a Gateway of long ago.
