KNIGHTS DONATE JACKETS TO AREA SCHOOLS

The Natchitoches Knights of Columbus recently donated 336 new jackets to three area schools, L.P. Vaughn, Weaver, and Provencal. The Knights through funds generated by their weekly bingo were able to purchase fourteen dozen jackets and because of their charitable work were recognized by their Supreme Council who matched their purchase. Twelve dozen jackets went to Vaughn and eight dozen were donated to Weaver and another eight dozen to Provencal. The jackets were in various sizes and colors and were left at the schools for distribution by the school to needy students. The Knights of Columbus is a worldwide fraternal organization for Catholic men who are committed to doing charitable work for their church and community. This donation of jackets is one of many projects funded by the Natchitoches Knights. If you are interested in joining these dedicated men, contact any current member of the Knights.

  1. What nice jackets, these children are so lucky! Unfortunately, the jackets don’t qualify to be worn to school. They do no meet the criteria for color as described in the dress code. So sad, how a child is dressed is more important than if they are warm or learning anything. In my opinion, uniforms belong in the military, jail and private schools. Is it me, or do most Louisiana schools have their priorities in all the wrong places?

    • The jackets can be worn to and from school. The following was copied from the Natchitoches Parish School Board Uniform Regulations. No children are expected to avoid school because they do not have a “school” jacket. The Knights have been donating new jackets for years. This year they were able to expand to three schools. I have my own ideas about school uniforms, but will post them at another time. By-the-way I do not agree with you.

JACKETS  Lightweight “windbreaker” style and jackets (solid color) may be worn at school in white, navy blue, black, brown, gray or the designated school color. No logos allowed. The school emblem is allowed on the jackets.  Jackets must not be excessively bulky.  No hood may be worn in school buildings or on the bus.  Dusters and trench coats are not allowed. NOTE: Jackets that do not meet the above requirements may be worn to school, BUT must be taken off upon entering the school building.
