NSU Volleyball: Lady Demons add New Mexico State transfer

Northwestern State volleyball added another member to the 2020 signing class this week in New Mexico State transfer Autumn Gentry.

The Katy, Texas native joins the Lady Demons after one season as a setter for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament Champion Aggies.

Gentry saw limited action during her freshman season playing in 14 matches, including the NCAA Tournament match against BYU. She saw action in 16 total sets recording 16 assists.

“We are very excited to be adding Autumn to our program going into the 2020 season,” head coach Sean Kiracofe said. “We have high expectations for next season and think she is going to be an important piece to that puzzle.

“She is transferring from a competitive volleyball team that is used to winning championships which is a mentality that we have been building towards here at NSU. Along with that winning attitude, we’re looking forward to the athleticism that she will bring to the court on a daily basis.”

As a standout prep player at Katy High School, Gentry was a two-time recipient of the Katy ISD outstanding setter award and named to the Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association’s (GHVCA) FAB 50 list in three-straight seasons.

As a senior she was named to the GHVCA postseason first team and all-star team and picked by the Texas Association of Volleyball (TAVC) for the all-state and all-star team. That season she posted 763 assists, 385 kills with a .314 hitting percentage, 508 digs and 59 aces. Her career numbers reach nearly 3,000 assists, 1,000 digs and 750 kills.

The 2020 volleyball season is scheduled to begin on the final weekend of August. Stay connected to NSU volleyball by following @NSUDemonsVB on Twitter or Instagram or by liking Northwestern State volleyball on Facebook.
