Nine months in the making, the City of Natchitoches held a press conference on July 6 to announce the launch of Crime Stoppers of Natchitoches, Inc. This non profit organization will assist local enforcement agencies to help solve and fight crime in the Natchitoches community. It’s made up of residents who are volunteering their time to help reduce crime and bring justice for victims.
“The proliferation of violent crime seems to be a national trend,” said Mayor Ronnie Williams Jr. He explained that across the nation over the holiday weekend there were 400 shootings with 150 fatalities. “This past weekend a shooting resulted in two injuries right here in our beloved Natchitoches,” he added. “This admin is sending a clear message that we won’t tolerate crime on our streets.”
Williams implored the public to provide info about new and cold cases as they’re advertised.
Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright said his office is working to compile a list of cold cases. He hopes that Crime Stoppers of Natchitoches will open the door to new calls and new information on these cases.
Interim Chief of Police Harmon Winters said he believes the tip line will be a good tool toward solving cases.
Crime Stoppers is a nationally-recognized crime prevention program that provides reward money to anyone who provides a tip that leads to an arrest for a crime.
How it works:
The tip line is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Spanish-speaking operators are available. Call 318-238-2388 and share what you know. Or, simply download the P3 app and submit your tip using your mobile phone. You’ll receive an anonymous Tipster ID and we’ll take it from there. Be sure to check in periodically to see if your tip led to an arrest.
If the information provided by the tipster is helpful and leads to an arrest, solving a murder, the recovery of weapons, narcotics, or stolen property, you could be eligible to receive a cash reward ranging from $250 – $2,000. Anonymity is guaranteed. There’s no caller ID, no recorded lines, and no phone tracking.
DA Billy Joe Harrington stressed the fact that the tip process is totally anonymous. “We hope people who witness a crime or have info about one call and report,” he said. “We hope this leads to evidence that leads to convictions.”
