Master Gardeners Select Natchitoches Parish Veterans and Memorial Park as a Community Service Project

The Master Gardeners of Natchitoches selected The Natchitoches Parish Veterans and Memorial Park as a Community Project for the year. President Maye Foster, along with other Gardeners: Link Hall, Julie Wohletz, Elizabeth Richey, Kathy Karolt, and Mary Fosson, worked 2 mornings in the Park, first cleaning out the dead and overgrown shrubs, and then planting the new plants, and placing mulch in all the beds. Gardeners not pictured include: Rickey McCalister, and Betty Whitehead. Members of the Park Committee that worked with the Gardeners include: Dee Fowler, Jan Darfus, and John Masson. Not pictured are Tommy Stewart, Trish Gilbert, Donna Masson and Veteran Tommy Sibley.

The Park will now have blooming plants, as well as evergreen bushes, and thanks to our Master Gardeners, they are fertilized and will give beauty to the Park each Season. The Master Gardeners have provided a much needed “Beautification” to our Veterans Park. We appreciate all that they did in providing the planning, labor, selecting of proper plants, and assisting with financing.

The Park Committee invites members of the community to view the new gardens on November 11, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. as we dedicate new bricks to the Park. The Riverbank Stage will be the location of our Veterans Day Program at 4:00 P.M. This year we are honoring our Vietnam Era Veterans. Any veteran who served on active duty from November 1, 1955 through May 15, 1975, regardless of location, is eligible to be honored during the program. Contact Donna Masson at 379-2707 to give your name and branch of service.

Please visit our beautiful Park, and make plans to attend the Programs on November 11, to honor our Natchitoches Parish Vietnam Veterans.
