Northwestern State’s Hoang selected for Academic All-Conference team

For the second consecutive year Northwestern State libero Haley Hoang is being recognized for her work off the court with a spot on the Southland Conference Academic All-Conference Team.

Hoang earned a spot on the conference’s second team for the second time in her career after maintaining a 3.9 grade point average through the end of the spring 2021 semester.

The Plano, Texas native finished her junior season with 474 digs, the ninth most for a Lady Demon in a single season. Her 4.4 dig per set average was also good enough for 11th best in school history and she was the eighth player to finish a season with an average of four digs or more per set in a season.

During conference play Hoang upped her average to an even more impressive 4.8 digs per set with four of her nine overall 20-dig matches on the season coming against Southland opponents.

She had two separate 27-dig outings, her season high, against Nicholls and Southeastern just one shy of her career high set during the spring season earlier in the year. She finished second in the conference in total digs.

Hoang recorded her first career double-double during the season with 11 assists and 23 digs in NSU’s five-set win against UIW on Nov. 4. In that match she also matched a season high with four aces to contribute to her team-leading 30 on the season.

During non-conference play Hoang was named to one all-tournament team, following 50 digs and a 5.0 dig per set average in three matches in the Lamar Invitational.

Through two full seasons and one injury- and COVID-shortened season Hoang has 875 digs, ranking her in the top 20 all-time on the career list, with a 3.6 per set average, fourth best all-time.
