Mason McCart, a junior at St. Mary’s Catholic School, was recently elected as the president of the Louisiana State Beta Club. He campaigned against five other candidates. The mission of the Beta Club is to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students. St. Mary’s has had an active Beta Club membership for many years. Mr. Michael Landry, a history teacher at St. Mary’s, has been the club sponsor for thirty years. They were also accompanied by their co-sponsor Mrs. Jessica Spear; a religion teacher at St. Mary’s. This is the third time in the school’s Beta Club history to have a state officer. Danielle Chicola was elected as the state vice president in 2004 and Anna Kate Jackson was elected as the state president in 2021. She also received the honor of becoming national president over the summer.
Several other students were recognized at the state competition. Lily Anna Sklar earned fourth place for Creative Writing. The marketing team of Kadence Creamer, Caroline Godfrey, Abigail Guillet and Emma Grace Haecker received fourth place honors. Cal Sukurek earned first place honors in woodworking. The St. Mary’s club also placed second in their campaign skit. Members of the club will continue on to the national level this summer in Nashville, Tennessee where Mason will run for national president and members will compete in marketing and creative writing.
