An 11-mile vehicle pursuit and foot chase late Thursday evening led to the arrest of a Natchitoches man on multiple criminal charges that resulted in the seizure of illegal narcotics and recovery of a stolen firearm according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.
On Thursday evening, Dec. 15 at approximately 11:30 pm, NPSO Patrol Operations Bureau deputies were patrolling on La. Hwy 1 South near Cypress when they attempted to stop a tan 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe for a traffic violation.
Deputies say the operator of the vehicle failed to stop for their emergency lights, leading them on a pursuit up to 82 miles per hour traveling northbound through Natchez and continued into the City of Natchitoches. Deputies requested assistance from Natchitoches Police Department.
As the vehicle neared the City on La. Hwy 1 passing vehicles on the shoulder the suspect veered left onto Rapides Drive, then turned left on Fairgrounds Road traveling a short distance then turned right on Maria Lane and then onto Miranda Loop where the suspect pulled behind a residence and came to a stop.
Two suspects fled from the vehicle.
Deputy C. Willis engaged in a foot chase capturing one suspect identified as 22-year-old Kreig C. Hunter of Natchitoches approximately 50-yards from the vehicle. Deputies and Natchitoches Police searched the immediate area for the second suspect but were unsuccessful. During a search of the vehicle, deputies seized 2-cellophane bags containing approximately 34 ounces/over 2 pounds of suspected marijuana and a Springfield .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun reported stolen through Natchitoches Police Department. A Natchitoches Mullti-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force Agent responded to assist in the investigation.
Kreig Chazbreontae Hunter, 22, of Natchitoches was transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Possession of CDS I Marijuana, Possession of CDS I Ecstasy (MDMA), Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Illegal Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of Controlled Dangerous Substances, Switched License Plates, Speediing 82/55, Flight from an Officer, Resisting an Officer, Reckless Operation of a Vehicle, Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution and other traffic offenses.
Hunter is on probation until November 2023. The Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution charge stems from Natchitoches Parish Detention Center Corrections Deputies discovering 3 suspected ecstasy (MDMA) tabs on Hunter’s person during the booking process. The seized narcotics evidence and recovered firearm will be submitted to the crime lab for narcotics, ballistics and DNA analysis. Hunter remains in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center awaiting bond.
