Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Winn Parish man on several criminal charges and recovered a stolen handgun during a disturbance in Cedar Grove Sub-Division on Dec. 13 according to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.
On Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 13 at approximately 12:51 pm, NPSO Patrol Operations Bureau deputies responded to NATCOM 911 Center reports of a possible burglary in progress in the 100 block of Ann Street in Cedar Grove Sub-Division just south of Natchitoches.
While speaking with the homeowner (complainant) deputies learned that a male identified as Zion Edwards commonly known by the homeowner went to the residence causing a disturbance. While there Edwards allegedly attempted to forcefully enter the residence and made threats as to “shooting the home up and doing bodily harm to her.” Edwards then shattered the front storm door glass. Responding deputies passed that information on to 911 Communications Operators who immediately broadcasted a BOLO (Be on the lookout) message for the vehicle.
Three deputies in SWAT training responded to the area, observed and stopped the suspect vehicle near the intersections of Keyser Avenue and Blanchard Road in Natchitoches. The driver, was positively identified as 19-year-old Zion Deshurn Edwards of St. Maurice. Deputies learned during the traffic stop, that Edwards was wanted on outstanding criminal warrants through the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office and Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office.
A search of the vehicle led to the seizure and recovery of a loaded Taurus 9mm semi-automatic handgun reported stolen through Natchitoches Police Department. A NPSO detective also responded to assist.
Zion D. Edwards, 19, of St. Maurice, La. was transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Simple Criminal Damage to Property, Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Probation Violation, and outstanding warrants in Natchitoches Parish for Probation Violation, Theft, Vehicle Theft and through Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office for Domestic Abuse Battery, and Cruelty to the Infirmed.
Other charges are pending as the investigation continues. Edwards remains in the Natchitoches Detention awaiting bond and transfer to Winn Parish.
