GLAMM students visit with member of House of Representatives

Students in Lakeview’s GLAMM (Gator Ladies Are Making Moves) program recently visited with House of Representatives Member Tammy Phelps of Shreveport. Representative Phelps spoke with the girls about the importance of real friendships, how she became a politician, helping the community, listening to parents, and more. She then took the girls to the Cotton Candy Crush LLC, which is also located in her office building. While there, the girls were treated to milkshakes and cotton candy. The owner also spoke the girls about the importance of saving money and entrepreneurship. In addition, Judge Sims of Shreveport spoke with the girls about traffic laws and violations, defensive driving courses, and preparing for college. She also brought signed pictures of her daughter, Taylor Sims, who is the current Miss Ark-La-Tex and will be competing for the Miss Louisiana crown in February. GLAMM ended the trip by having lunch at Orlandeaux’s, which was founded by former residents of Campti.

GLAMM is a girl empowerment group focused on helping girls gain self confidence and skills that help them become successful women. They learn various skills through after school classes. GLAMM is still accepting donations and looking for people who want to teach classes on hair, makeup and/or fashion. If you would like to contribute, please contact Chanda Goff at Chanda.goff@npsb.la
