Lakeview Jr./Sr. High School is proud to announce the 8th and 12th grade Lakeview Junior Senior High School 2022-2023 Students of the Year: Gavin Franks and Sammya Rachal.
Gavin is an 8th grader at Lakeview Junior High and enjoys being a part of the 4-H shooting sports team. He has been on the team since 4th grade and has competed in both the Regional and State competitions. He enjoys the teamwork of helping others during the practices and the individual responsibilities of competition. Gavin is also an honor roll student.
He says, “I have always maintained the A or B honor roll since I have been in school. I think academics are important because they reflect how dedicated I am to my school and the integrity of my work. Grades reflect how I feel about myself, and I want my grades to prove how hard I try even if things get hard and prove I don’t give up. Good grades will also help me receive scholarships toward furthering my education after I graduate high school. I hope to be a Pediatrician when I grow up.”
Gavin is also a member of the Krewe of Gemini kids float. He gives back to the community by being a part of the Mardi Gras celebrations, interacting with the community, and spreading Mardi Gras cheer with his throws and specialty beads.
Sammya is a 12th grader at Lakeview Senior High and the Captain of the Varsity Cheer Team, a Leading Lady of Gator Ladies Are Making Moves, and serves as the Historian of National Honor Society. She is also a member of FBLA, YVC, the Track & Field team, and Powerlifting team. She received the Coach’s award while serving as Co-Captain her previous year on the Cheer Team. She was also voted as the most likely to succeed as class favorite for 3 consecutive years.
During her free time, she enjoys working out, going out with friends, and spending quality time with family. After high school, she plans to attend Northwestern State University to major in Nursing, and become a Nurse Anesthetist.
