Natchez Village Council approves hiring professional exterminator to deal with rat infestation

The Natchez Village Council held a brief special called meeting on Jan. 24 to address several pressing matters.

The council addressed the following items on the agenda.

  1. Council to authorize the mayor to hire an exterminating company to professionally treat the Village of Natchez Town Hall for rat infestation. In discussing, the mayor noted that there were rats throughout the town hall offices and that some village documents had rat droppings on them. J&J Exterminating will be hired at a cost of $600 to deal with this problem. This item passed with all three aldermen voting yes.
  2. Council to authorize the mayor to hire a cleaning service to professionally clean the building after the extermination has been completed.  After some discussion as to finding a company to perform the task, the item received no offer or second and died for that lack.
  3. Council to authorize the mayor to hire a plumbing company to repair plumbing in both restrooms that are presently not usable. In discussion, the mayor noted that neither the ladies nor men’s room was usable and that the men’s room had flooded. Addressing this problem was further complicated by problems with the lift station. This item received no offer or second and died for that lack.
  4. Council to approve a $375 fee for an occupational license for Hall and Sumlin Investment, DBA as Just John. This item was approved with all three aldermen voting yes.
  5. Council to approve $75 for sewage deposits for residents. This is an increase from the present $50 deposit. This item was approved with all three aldermen voting yes.

The meeting was then adjourned.
