Dorota Szczygielska is SLC Player of the Week

Northwestern State tennis junior Dorota Szczygielska was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday as voted by the league’s coaches and information directors.

Szczygielska helped clinch the victory for both of NSU’s matches in Hattiesburg against Jackson State and Southern Miss.

The Poland native won the last two sets of the marathon match against Jackson State (1-6, 6-4, 7-6), facing Daniela Ramos at No. 4.

With the match tied at 3-3, Szczygielska forced a third set to clinch the win against Jackson State.

The doubles pair Szczygielska and Renske Ubachs, secured the doubles point for NSU with a 6-1 win to defeat Ricardo and Aulana of Southern Miss.

Szczygielska clinched the 4-1 win over USM with her singles play at No. 4 6-4, 6-3.

During the 2022 season, Szczygielska missed the entire season due to a back injury.

Her and the Lady Demons return to court Saturday afternoon against UL Monroe.
