I recently had the opportunity to sit in on a conversation between a local deer processor and two wildlife biologists. The topic of this particular conversation was Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) and how it has become a real problem in Louisiana. CWD, which is similar to Mad Cow Disease, causes irreversible damage to the animal’s brain tissue. When this occurs, it leads to neurological symptoms and ultimately the death of the animal. This disease is spread by deer-to-deer contact as well as urine, feces and saliva.
