The Natchitoches Historic Foundation, in the process of restoring the Roque House on the downtown riverbank, has moved the structure to its new location facing Cane River.
According to the NHF, moving the structure itself was no flippant decision. Because the entire riverbank area is the old river bed for the Red River, the organization decided to move the Roque House to put it 7.5 feet above the level of Cane River Lake. Motivation for this lift in elevation was the horrible damage inflicted on the Roque House by the 2016 flooding that raised Cane River far beyond its banks.
