Two St. Mary’s basketball players receive All-State honorable mention

Joe Metoyer and Ayden Warren were two of the key reasons the St. Mary’s High School boys’ basketball team had such a strong season, and they were rewarded Sunday with the release of the Class A All-State team chosen by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Metoyer and Warren were honorable mention selections. There were 10 players from around the state chosen for the first and second teams combined, and another eight awarded honorable mention status.

The two Tigers helped SMHS reach the state quarterfinals. Metoyer, a senior who was also a standout running back for the St. Mary’s football team that made it to the state quarterfinals, was a 6-foot-2 forward who averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Warren, a 5-foot-11 sophomore shooting guard, was the Tigers’ top scorer with a 17-point average.

The Tigers lost in the quarterfinals to their district rivals and the eventual state champion Northwood-Lena Gators.
