Senior Day could not have gone much better for the Northwestern State tennis team.
The Lady Demons (12-8, 4-3 SLC) finish off the regular season with a 5-2 win against Southeastern (10-9, 3-4 SLC) on Thursday afternoon.
To begin the afternoon, NSU took two of the three doubles matches as the Lady Demons started the match off on the right foot.
Doubles pairing Paige Wise and Mariella Minetti took the win on No. 2 in a thrilling 7-5 win to break the tie and give NSU a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Wise was the first NSU player to wrap up her contest, coming away with a convincing 6-2, 6-2, victory to put the Lady Demons up 2-0.
Sofi Garcia finished close after with a 6-4, 6-1, win on No. 4 to give the Lady Demons a 3-0 edge and on the brink of their third straight win. Garcia has 11 singles wins on the season.
Southeastern would not go quietly, though, as it pulled out win at singles spots Nos. 1 and 5.
In the top slot Tjasa Klevisar fell to Putri Insani in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Minetti fell in three sets to Flory Bierma in straight sets 7-6, 7-6.
Ayu Ishibashi closed the door on any comeback, though, clinching the win for the Lady Demons in three sets.
Ishibashi dominated in the first set 6-0, but Gabrielle Dekkers pushed the match to a third set with a 7-5 win in the second. Ayu pulled out the victory with a 6-3 win in the third set.
Renske Ubachs gutted out a three-set singles win at No. 6 against SLU’s Alba Perez to close out the victory.
After going down 7-6 in the first set, Ubachs defeated Perez 6-3 in the second set. She kept it going in the deciding set, dominating set three, only allowing Perez to capture one game.
The Lady Demons will be back in action in Corpus Christi for the Southland Conference tournament, starting April 21. Their opponent has yet to be determined.
