NCHS gets first-round bye, St. Mary’s home Monday in softball playoffs

When the Louisiana High School Athletic Association issued its softball playoff brackets Thursday, Natchitoches Central got a day off and St. Mary’s got a first-round home game.

The Lady Chiefs drew a first-round bye in the Division I Non-Select bracket and will host a second-round game next week against either No. 12 Sulphur or No. 21 Denham Springs. If NCHS advances, it would probably play No. 4 West Monroe in the quarterfinal round, with the winner earning a berth in the state semifinals at Sulphur, likely against No. 1 St. Amant.

The Lady Tigers received a No. 11 seeding and were matched up with No. 22 St. Martin’s Episcopal in the Division IV Select tournament. That game is set for Monday at 5 at St. Mary’s. The winner will travel to No. 6 St. John in the second round.

The Lakeview girls did not qualify for the postseason.
