August is National Black Business Awareness Month and NSU’s Alpha Phi Alpha undergraduate chapter observed the occasion by hosting their first “Black Business Expo” at NSU’s Friedman Memorial Student Union Thursday, August 24.
Local businesses ranging from restaurants to photographers displayed their wares and services. The evening was intended to celebrate Black entrepreneurship and introduce the businesses to the NSU student community.
Of particular note were the businesses started by NSU students. One young man takes plain white sneakers and turns them into works of wearable art. The neighboring table was occupied by a young woman who operates a hair styling business braiding hair. She also is working at a local retail store. Both of these impressive young persons have largely defrayed the cost of their college educations with their hard work and creativity.
