NSU kicks off Demon Excellence Campaign

Northwestern State Athletics announced Tuesday it has kicked off the Demon Excellence Campaign, a year-end fundraising campaign with a goal of raising $100,000 by Dec. 31.

Demon fans and supporters are invited to make donations to either the Demons Unlimited Fund, the official 501c3 fundraising arm of Northwestern State Athletics, which supports all Northwestern State’s 300-plus student-athletes, or directly to the sport of their choice.

“We are truly thankful and appreciative for what all of our supporters do for Northwestern State Athletics throughout the year,” Director of Athletics Kevin Bostian said. “As we continue to shape a successful future for our student-athletes – in their respective sports and in their future endeavors – we know we cannot do it without the support of our donors. Your donations have a two-fold effect – one, you set our department up for success in the short term and, two, you allow for our student-athletes to grow as both athletes and people. Whether you donate on your own or make a donation in someone’s name as a unique stocking stuffer around the holidays, you are making a difference in our department, and we are grateful for each one of you.”

Donations can be made on the campaign website. All donations are tax deductible and can be made in a variety of ways as shown below.

Types of gifts

Read more about each type of gift and the steps you can take to ensure proper accounting of your end-of-the-year gift:

Gifts of cash/check

  • Make checks payable to the Demons Unlimited Foundation. Indicate your gift designation on the memo line of your check (i.e. General Needs or Specific Sport).
  • The date of the gift is subject to IRS rules. It is the responsibility of the donor to substantiate the date of the contribution.
  • Mailed checks must be postmarked by Dec. 30, 2023, to be recorded as a 2023 gift.

Gifts by debit/credit cards

  • The IRS requires credit card donations to be processed in the same year of the deduction. Therefore, all credit card donations must be processed on or before Dec. 31. We encourage you to make your credit card gifts online to ensure that they will be processed in 2023.

Gifts of securities/stocks

Gifts of appreciated securities provide financial support to NSU Athletics and the Demons Unlimited Foundation, and they may have tax benefits for the donor as well.

Donors can instruct their financial institution to transfer securities electronically to Demons Unlimited Foundation at:

LPL Financial Services

DTC Number: 0075
For further credit to: Demons Unlimited Foundation
Account number: 78589406

In addition to the transfer information, we ask that you communicate the stock transfer request to Jamie Howard, Director of Business Operations at howardj@nsula.edu so that we can keep track of the transaction.

IRAs and Qualified Charitable Deductions

Donors age 70 ½ and above can use a standard IRA to support the Demons Unlimited Foundation. Arrange a qualified charitable deduction (QCD) with your IRA’s administrator; be sure to allow enough time for its receipt by end of the year. Donors age 73 and greater can use their required minimum distribution (RMD) to make a QCD.

Donor advised funds

Donors can make a contribution to a fund set up with a variety of firms or organizations and take a charitable tax deduction in the year of the contribution. Then the donor, as the adviser, can direct distributions from the DAF to the public charity of their choice.

Remember your matching gift

Many employers match gifts made by employees, spouses and retirees. Check with your human resources department to see if you qualify. If your company participates, return the required matching gift form with your gift to the Demons Unlimited Foundation.
