A constituent member of the international fraternity’s Ninth District (which includes Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana), the members of the Theta Delta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. at Northwestern State University (NSU), will host the Adopt-A-Street-sign Dedication/Unveiling ceremony to honor the founder/former advisor (the late Rev. George Stanley Lewis) of the chapter on Friday, March 15 at 10 am at 100 Howell Street on the west side of the former Fontenot’s Restaurant building.
As a part of the (constant) campaign to help Keep Natchitoches Clean and Beautiful, the fraternity will be responsible for cleaning the litter on the street from the south end of Howell Street at University Parkway to the north end of the street to Thomas Street. The monthly endeavor will also include the membership assisting with the cleaning of the Jackson Square Cemetery.
Organizing the chapter at NSU in 1972, Lewis was iniated into the fraternity as an undergraduate at Grambling State University and served as chapter advisor for over twenty years and held various leadership positions in the fraternity from the District to national levels. A retired administrator from the Natchitoches Parish School District, Lewis lived on Howell Street for over forty years.
