Defendant changes plea to guilty during jury selection in felony DWI case

District Attorney Billy Joe Harrington announced the guilty plea and sentencing in a recent felony DWI case.

Jerome Manuel, 51 of Many, pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated-3rd offense in the 10th Judicial District Court. Manuel initially pleaded not guilty to the charge and a jury was being selected for trial. However, Manuel changed his plea to guilty and trial proceedings ceased.

Judge Desiree Dyess accepted the guilty pleas and sentenced Manuel to five years of incarceration in the La. Department of Corrections.

Manuel was previously convicted of DWI on two other occasions in other jurisdictions in Louisiana.

Assistant District Attorney Bray Williams prosecuted the case.
