The Northwestern State University Demon Dazzler dance line attended NDA collegiate dance camp July 19-21 alongside 14 other universities from all around Texas and Louisiana. The camp was held at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.
Since 1976, NDA has built upon foundations of spirit, tradition and excellence. NDA continues to prove “The Work Is Worth It” through empowering young athletes across the country. By working alongside coaches and dance teams nationwide at camps and competitions, NDA strives to build not only strong athletes, but great individuals.
During camp, the Demon Dazzlers improved their team and individual technique through one-on-one coaching with their “Camp Buddy” Haley. Each day, teams were given routines and sidelines to take back home for the season. On the last day, the teams were evaluated and judged on the Team Dance they learned on day one and two. The Dazzlers received a blue superior ribbon adjudication and second place overall, an NDA Spirit Stick, and a bronze level bid to NDA Nationals in Daytona, Florida. In addition to the team awards, two members were awarded individual “All American” medals and certificates. These members are McKenzie Scroggs and Ariyonna Sarpy. In total, the Dazzlers learned 13 routines in two days to bring back to NSU.
Camp buddy Haley stated, “The Dazzlers really dove into this process, for which I am very appreciative, and they have such a bright future ahead of them for this season!”
Coach Brandi Chasteen remarked, “I’m so excited for this season! I have seen so much growth in the past few days that it really gets me fired up to think of what they can accomplish throughout the year. This team is eager to perform for the Natchitoches community and we hope to see everyone on the tailgate field for our first performance at Demons Come Out at Night pep rally on September 6 at 7 pm, and in Turpin on Saturday September 7 for our home opener against Prairie View A&M at 6 pm. Fork Em Demons!”
Sept. 7 is also Spirit of Northwestern’s Young Performer’s Day. This event is open to middle school and high school band members from all instrument areas including drum majors, colorguard, rifle, dance lines, and baton twirlers.
