Natchitoches Police arrest suspect for shooting on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive

The Natchitoches Police Department has arrested Aldrick Edwards (B/M, 42 y.o.a. of Dallas) for a shooting that occurred on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive Friday evening.

Natchitoches Police Department officers responded to the 100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on Aug. 9 around 7:41 pm in reference to a gunshot victim.  Upon officers arrival they located the victim who was suffering from gunshot wounds.  Officers began to render medical attention to the victim while waiting on other first responders to arrive.  The victim was airlifted to a hospital in Caddo Parish for further treatment. 

Officers and investigators on scene were able to speak with several witnesses.  This information led to a positive identification of the suspect, Aldrick Edwards.

Investigators received additional information from deputies with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office that the suspect may have fled to a residence in the parish.  Detectives and deputies arrived to the residence and asked the Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office K-9 deputy for additional assistance while searching for Aldrick Edwards.  The suspect was not located at the residence and detectives returned to the city to continue their search.  During their return a concerned citizen called the police department with a possible sighting of Aldrick Edwards in the 1000 block of University Parkway but he was gone prior to officers’ arrival. 

Several hours later around 12:02 a.m., officers and criminal patrol units located Aldrick Edwards in the 1400 block of Berry Avenue where he was hiding in the bed of a pick-up truck.  He was placed under arrest without incident.   

Aldrick Edwards is charged with attempted second degree murder and was placed in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.
