The “Fighting with Jami” Softball Benefit Tournament held Saturday

From community blood drives to BBQ fundraisers, one of the more pleasant aspects of small town life is that when trouble comes, so do friends and neighbors ready to help. Such was the case Saturday, August 17 as 11 softball teams from every corner of Natchitoches parish and Northern Louisiana came to Parc Natchitoches for a full day of softball and family fun with a purpose.

Jamison “Jami” Waxley is a four year old child facing Hyperimmunoglobulin E Syndrome, formerly known as Job Syndrome, a rare immunodeficiency disorder. His friends and family organized a softball tournament to raise funds to assist Jami’s parents with the cost of his treatment. The teams enjoyed a full day of competition as well as a superbly done fundraiser plate lunch. The day’s goal was to raise $8,000.00, the cost of one treatment according to Jami’s mother. The family has also established a “Go Fund Me” page to further raise treatment funds.

This was more than a tournament. In a ballpark in our small town, a group of men and women came together to show America at its best, neighbor helping neighbor. The Natchitoches Parish Journal wishes all the best to Jami and his family.
