Banuelos earns Demons’ third consecutive SLC Goalkeeper of the Week award

Just re-name the award after Northwestern State.

For the third consecutive week, the Demons collected the Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, the conference.

For the second time in three weeks, Libe Banuelos took home the weekly award after posting a solo shutout and a combined shutout.

It is her third weekly award overall.

Banuelos began the weekend with a solo shutout of Tarleton, stopping six shots and facing 16, in a 1-0 victory.

Like she always does, Banuelos made multiple massive saves toward the end of each half to keep the Demons in the lead following Isabella Ruggiano’s late first half goal.

The senior followed that solo shutout with a combined shutout on Senior Day against Mississippi Valley State. Banuelos recorded two more saves in the first half before giving way to Kora Fry to finish off the 7-0 shutout victory.

Fry won the weekly award last week after a combined shutout of Jackson State and a solo shutout of Alabama A&M.

Overall, the Demons have posted five consecutive shutouts, the longest such streak since recording six consecutive in the conference-winning season of 2021.

Banuelos has made 42 saves overall, the second most number of saves in the conference. The Demons wrap up a string of three consecutive home matches and five of the last six at home with the conference opener Sunday against Nicholls. Following that, Northwestern State hits the road for three in a row.
