Thirty-one math teachers from schools throughout Northern Louisiana as well as East Texas Baptist University gathered at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Saturday, September 21 for a morning of engaging and fun math-based activities. The workshop, one of a series sponsored by Northwestern State University’s Mathematics Department, brings math teachers together to learn, exchange ideas and discover new techniques to take back to their schools. The workshop generated an amazing synergy as bright people who love their field got together to learn from each other.
The Natchitoches Parish Schools were well represented by NCHS Algebra teachers Katelyn Usleton, Zendra Owens and Barbara Thiergart. NSU Professor of Mathematics Dr. Judith Covington is likewise an alumna of both NCHS and NSU. The next workshop will be held at the LSMSA Saturday, November 9 from 10:00 am to Noon. The day’s theme will be a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the invention of the Rubik’s Cube.
