In a recent regional Marksmanship tournament, Lakeview High School’s Air Force JROTC finished 32nd amongst 106 Air Force JROTC teams nationwide.
The top 18 teams qualify to travel to the Air Force Service Championship held in Anniston, Alabama each year. Although Lakeview as a team came up short this year, Cadet Sydney Thompson qualified as one of eight individual marksman to advance to the Championship tournament. This will be a first in school history that Lakeview has advanced to a national level competition.
Lakeview JROTC has made big strides elevating their marksmanship team’s overall performance this year. Much of the improvement can be attributed to the new electronic scoring system they acquired through donations last year. This system provides immediate feedback to the competitor so they can better understand how to make adjustments during practice and competitions. This feedback is critical to helping cadets improve their scores and it is paying back in dividends.
The marksmanship season is not over yet, there are still a couple of competitions left on the schedule and the Air Force JROTC cadets at Lakeview plan to finish strong in the new year.
