Natchitoches Junior High students visit R.W. Norton Art Gallery in Shreveport

Students from Natchitoches Junior High’s Talent Visual Arts program traveled to Shreveport on March 28 for an enriching cultural experience at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery.

During their visit, the students participated in a docent-led tour, allowing them to explore a wide variety of artworks, including pieces from the gallery’s impressive American and European collections. The tour also highlighted ancient artifacts from Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Persia, offering the students a diverse and educational look at art history across cultures.

In addition to the permanent collections, the students had the opportunity to experience the Norton’s special spring exhibit, BLOOM! This year’s flower-themed showcase attracted over 527 submissions from 29 states and 22 countries worldwide. From this pool, 53 pieces were selected to be part of the exhibit, which the students found particularly inspiring, drawing connections between the artworks on display and their own previous flower paintings and drawings.

The trip proved to be an inspiring and educational experience, fostering creativity and deepening the students’ appreciation for art from various cultures and time periods.
