Corporal Alexis Nelson named Employee of the Month for July

The City of Natchitoches recognized Corporal Alexis Nelson of the Natchitoches Police Department as its Employee of the Month for July, honoring her four years of dedicated service and outstanding contributions to the community.

Corporal Nelson currently serves with the department’s Narcotics and Violent Crime Task Force Division and was selected for the recognition through a department-wide nomination process led by Police Chief Nikeo Collins and his command staff. According to Chief Collins, her name consistently rose to the top of the list during discussions with supervisors and leadership within the department.

Known for her strong work ethic and leadership, Nelson is described as a go-getter who regularly takes initiative beyond her assigned duties. She has actively mentored younger officers and shown a commitment to continuous learning, eagerly stepping up to tackle responsibilities that often fall outside the scope of her role.

In addition to her law enforcement duties, Nelson has demonstrated a deep commitment to community engagement. She spearheaded programs such as uniform and backpack drives to provide school supplies for local students and is involved with service organizations like the Magnolia State Peace Officers Association. Her efforts reflect a passion for public service that extends well beyond her work in the field.

Chief Collins praised Nelson’s dedication, highlighting her personal understanding of the impact of violence and public safety issues. That firsthand experience, he said, gives her unique insight into the expectations and needs of victims and their families—insight that drives her approach to protecting and serving the residents of Natchitoches.

Nelson began her public safety career as a communications officer for another agency before joining the Natchitoches Police Department as a commissioned officer. Since that time, she has continued to excel, earning the respect of her peers and superiors alike.
