
The Village of Goldonna is preparing to say goodbye to retired Goldonna Elementary teacher, Mr. John Alton Dupree, Jr. He was born October 20, 1942 and passed from this life on December 17, 2025.
His survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances L. Buckley, also of Goldonna and twin sons, John Allen Dupree (and wife Theresa) of Haughton, Louisiana, who has retired from Louisiana Probation and Parole, and David William Dupree, (and wife Joan), oncology nurse at Ochsner LSU in Shreveport.
My Dupree (Johnny) is also survived by a brother, Roy Dupree and wife Linda of Goldonna, three grandsons- Joshua Dupree, and wife Bridget, Jacob Dupree and fiancée Jordan West, and Mathew Dupree and special friend Brianna McMahon. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Madeline Dupree of Stonewall, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude Bamburg Dupree and first cousin, Robert Earl Bamburg, Jr.
Johnny received his education at Northwestern State University with a Master’s degree. He was a retired school teacher of 24 years in the Louisiana Education System, teaching math and science at Brame Junior High School in Alexandria, Winnfield Middle School in Winnfield, Louisiana, and eventually retiring from Goldonna Elementary.
Johnny was happiest in the woods or on the water surrounding his home. He loved to fish for bass and catfish, and he haunted anything that was in season. He was a member of Red River Ramblers Camping Club, and developed many close friendships with the members.
His memorial service will be held on January 31, 2026 at Goldonna Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 9am until the time of service at 11am. Reverend Wiley Cole will be officiating. Ben Dupree, Robin McGrew Barnett, John LaTour and Clint Freeman will be participating in the service as well.
The community feels a great loss losing a great man with deep roots in the Goldonna Community.
