Defending Southland Conference women’s tennis champion Northwestern State hosts Tyler Junior College today at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex, with doubles play set to begin at 1 o’clock.
NSU (3-2) enters the matchup riding momentum from a commanding 7–0 sweep over LSU-Shreveport in its last outing. The Lady Demons dropped only six games in five straight-set singles victories.
The Lady Demons controlled that match from the outset, claiming the doubles point before surrendering just five total games in completed singles contests.
Head coach Marcos Morelli said the focus remains consistent.
“We want to continue with our process in both singles and doubles,” Morelli said. “It’s about building on what we’ve been working on and staying disciplined in how we compete.”
SOFTBALL: In Youngsville, Northwestern carries a boost of confidence heading into another tournament weekend.
The Lady Demons (1-5) scored the most runs in a single game under Fuller with their 12-0 run-rule win against Grambling on Tuesday heading into the Mardi Gras Mambo beginning today.
NSU will again play five games over the course of three days beginning with a doubleheader at 2 p.m. today. Saturday’s doubleheader starts at 3 p.m. with Sunday’s finale scheduled for 10 a.m. The Demons will play Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Georgia State, New Mexico for the third time in a week, Eastern Illinois and St. Thomas (Minn.) during the weekend.
No game will be streamed via live video but real-time, pitch-by-pitch coverage of each game can be found at nsudemons.com/livestats.
“The offense did a great job on Tuesday. (Associate head coach) Brad (Fuller) had a great game plan going in,” Fuller said. “I think this past weekend taught us a lot of lesson too, and lessons that we can use moving forward. We thought we did a good job this past weekend and now we can maybe get on a roll and go from there.”
TRACK AND FIELD: After strong performances in two indoor meets, the Demons and Lady Demons aim to finish off the pre-Southland Conference slate on a high note, as they make a return trip to Lubbock for the Jarvis Scott Invite.
The field events begin at 2 p.m. on Friday and the track events start at 4 p.m. on the campus of Texas Tech. Both the track and field events begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Fans can watch both days’ competition on ESPN+.
“It’s a really beautiful facility and we’re really looking forward to compete,” head coach Mike Heimerman said. “There is going to be some really good competition with many powerhouses, so it is going to be a nice challenge. We’ll also see some conference schools we haven’t seen yet this year. We look pretty good going into this final meet before conference.”
The Lady Demons are three-time reigning Southland Conference Indoor champions. Both teams will begin the 2026 SLC Indoors Feb. 25 in Birmingham.
