Natchitoches Parish lifts burn ban following improved conditions

Natchitoches Parish President John Salter, in coordination with local fire districts, has officially rescinded the parish-wide burn ban effective Monday, April 6, 2026.

The decision comes after recent rainfall and improved weather conditions that have reduced fire danger levels across the parish. The burn ban had been in place since Feb. 25, 2026, during a period of extreme drought and heightened wildfire risk.

Salter expressed appreciation to residents for their cooperation during the ban and recognized local fire districts for their continued monitoring and efforts to protect the community.

Although the burn ban has been lifted, parish officials are urging residents to continue exercising caution when conducting outdoor burning.

Safety recommendations include avoiding burning on windy days, remaining present at all times while a fire is active, and keeping a water source or fire extinguisher nearby. Residents are also encouraged to notify neighbors before conducting large burns.

Officials noted that while the parish-wide ban has been lifted, any applicable municipal ordinances and regulations from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry remain in effect.
