Oil and Gas Leasing Surges in Natchitoches Parish

The Natchitoches Parish Clerk of Court’s office has remained busy with oil and gas filings, recording 123 leases for the month of March 2026. This follows the 406 that were filed in 2025.

These leases continue to be in the “Robeline Field” and are currently mostly located in a large rectangular area with the south boundary being La. Highway 6 from Interstate 49 to the Sabine Parish line and extending approximately 10 miles north into the Spanish Lake bottoms. There have been a few additions south of La. Highway 6, like a mile south of Robeline and up to a mile down Collins Road and down La. Highway 117.

Since January 2025 the Clerk’s office has filed more than 600 leases. The leases for March had a size range from one acre to several over 300 acres.

The March surge represents the largest single-month total since the oil and gas resurgence began in early 2025, tripling the pace seen in January and February. The 123 leases filed in March alone account for nearly one-fifth of all leases recorded throughout 2025.

The concentration of activity in the “Robeline Field” demonstrates focused operator interest in a specific geological target area within the broader Haynesville Shale formation. The 10-mile northward extension into the Spanish Lake bottoms and limited southern expansion suggests operators are methodically securing contiguous acreage blocks for efficient future development.

With more than 600 leases now on file since January 2025, Natchitoches Parish has established itself as one of Louisiana’s most active energy development markets. The accelerating pace of leasing activity, combined with extensive seismic surveying, positions the parish for a potential transition from land acquisition to active drilling operations in 2026.

Landowners approached with lease offers are strongly encouraged to seek counsel from qualified oil and gas attorneys before signing any documents. These agreements can have long-term consequences for mineral rights, surface rights and property use.

A review of Natchitoches Parish Clerk of Court records confirms the 123 leases filed in March 2026. The NPJ obtained this information directly from the parish’s online Public Records system.
