Burns, Gibson, Lacy take home Demon Brothers Booster Club Player of the Week honors

Following Northwestern State’s 37-10 victory at Houston Christian this past Saturday, a trio of underclassmen have been named the Demon Brothers Booster Club Players of the Week, presented by Allegiance HealthCare.

Sophomore running back Kennieth Lacy earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after rushing for a career-high 107 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Lacy, a transfer from Kilgore College, added four catches for 41 yards while becoming the first Demon to cross the 100-yard rushing barrier since Scooter Adams did so at UIW on April 10, 2021.

Lacy leads the Demons with 300 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Gibson, a sophomore transfer from East Central Community College, collected a career-high five tackles, including one for loss. Gibson’s performance helped the Purple Swarm defense hold Houston Christian to 267 yards total offense, more than 70 yards less than HCU’s season average.

The Demon defense did not yield a touchdown for the first time this season.

Redshirt freshman AJ Burns was named Special Teams Player of the Week after collecting a pair of tackles, including a perfectly timed hit in the first quarter. Burns was part of a Demon coverage unit that did not allow a punt return yard in the win.

Northwestern State returns to action Saturday when they host Southeast Missouri State for Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. inside Turpin Stadium.
