Waterway Commission works to add access point on Cane River

Everyone has probably been curious about the empty lot on the corner of Williams and Keyser Avenue that had dirt work done and a for sale sign put up. The Cane River Waterway Commission is in negotiations to purchase the property to add another point of access to Cane River for the everyday person who enjoys fishing, but might not have a boat to get out on the water.

If the sale goes through, the commission’s plans include 6-8 parking spots with an ADA accessible ramp down to the water’s edge. A seawall and gazebo would be constructed after undergrowth was cleared out.

This project would require a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with the City of Natchitoches.

“It’s all about making the river better and accessible to everyone,” said CRWC Chairman Jim Rhodes.
