Lady Chiefs Volleyball falls in second round of state playoffs

The NCHS Lady Chiefs Volleyball Team played with their customary class, grit and determination Saturday at home in a second-round state playoff match against Metairie’s Archbishop Chapelle. Unfortunately, a win was not to be, as the Lady Chiefs fell to Chapelle, three sets to one.

NCHS took an early lead, winning the first set, but was unable to overcome a fierce Chapelle counterattack in the subsequent sets.

Lady Chief Volleyball has continued its enviable record of excellence on and off the court this season. The team was undefeated in district play and easily clinched the district championship, earning a No. 8 seed in the state playoff bracket. The team’s final record was 29-6. This year was highlighted by the program’s first victory in a playoff contest, last week’s 3-0 defeat of Henry L Bourgeois.

The girls on the team are fixtures on the NCHS Honor Roll. The Lady Chiefs have three players on the LHSAA All-Academic Team for Class 5A schools, recognizing those who exemplify everything that a student-athlete should be on the court and in the classroom.

The Natchitoches Parish Journal would also like to commend the NCHS student section. In every match I have attended, the student section filled the bleachers and kept up a vociferous level of support akin to an erupting volcano. No team has a more loyal (or creatively dressed) fan base!

Lady Chiefs Volleyball is the youngest high school sports team of any school in the parish. Since its founding in 2016, the team has quickly built a culture of excellence. The Natchitoches Parish Journal is looking forward to next year’s season. Go Chiefs!
