The goal for head coach Sean Kiracofe in the past couple of recruiting cycles has been to bring in more size and athleticism to Northwestern State volleyball.
Both of those intangibles have been put on display throughout the 2022 season, and with the addition of two more signees on Wednesday that fall directly into those categories, the Demons will continue that trend moving forward.
Kiracofe announced the additions of 6-foot-1 outside hitter Makenna Tryon and 6-foot-3 right side/middle Camryn Moon for the 2023 season.
Moon, the Katy, Texas native, finished her prep career at Faith West Academy after transferring from Cinco Ranch following her junior season.
She led Cinco Ranch in blocks as a sophomore and was named to the all-district academic team following that season and after her junior year. At Faith West, Moon led the team in blocks and kills and received district honorable mention honors.
Moon helped her teams reach the playoffs in each of her three seasons on the court. She played two years of club ball for Houston Skyline and one for the Texas Tornados.
Tryon will make her way to Natchitoches from Waller, Texas and Waller HS and a family pedigree of athleticism. She will become the fourth collegiate athlete in the family among her cousins, following in the footsteps of her dad and uncles that played football at Texas State.
In past two seasons, Tryon has amassed over 600 kills, doing so on a 3.0 kill per set average, 600 digs and 80 aces.
She has led her Waller teams in kills in each of the past three seasons for a pair of team MVP honors and three all-district selections thus far. During her junior season, Tryon was named to the AVCA Phenom Watch List and earned a spot on the Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association’s post season team.
Tryon is a four-time academic all-district honoree as well, set to graduate in the top five percent of her class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and a College Board National African American Recognition Program Scholar.
