The NSU E-Lab school held its Veteran’s Day Program Friday, November 11 at the school. The program began with a procession of veterans escorted by E-Lab 4-H members. The NSU Army ROTC Color Guard posted the colors while the children sang the National Anthem. The E-Lab 4-H officers led the Pledge of Allegiance after which the school presented a slide show of students’ family members who were veterans.
The keynote speaker was Louisiana Army National Guard Command Sergeant Major Albert L. Vanzant. CSM Vanzant lives in Lafayette and is the grandfather of two E-Lab school students. CSM Vanzant spoke of the Army values and how they shape the Army’s soldiers throughout their lives. He concluded by thanking another group of heroes-the teachers that shape young minds and build society.
The program concluded with the children singing “This is America” and closing remarks. As with the program at NCHS, the event was well organized and displayed some superbly talented students. The NSU E-Lab Veterans’ Day Program is a wonderful example of small-town life at its best. Thank you for inviting me.
