Sharp named Southland Conference Player of the Week

Two game-clinching performances led DeMarcus Sharp to the first individual honor of his Northwestern State career.

Sharp was named Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after leading the Demons to a pair of road wins, including the first true road victory against an Associated Press Top 25 team in program history.

A 6-foot-3, 180-pound senior, Sharp averaged 21 points, five assists and three steals per game and hit the game-winning basket in the Demons’ 64-63 victory at No. 15 TCU on Nov. 14.

He followed that up by scoring five of NSU’s final seven points – including the go-ahead free throws with 58 seconds to play — in a 70-67 win at Illinois State.

Sharp, a Missouri State transfer, finished the Illinois State game with a career-high 23 points and has established an NSU career high in points in three straight games. His seven assists at TCU and five steals at Illinois also stand as his NSU career highs in those categories.

Sharp and the Demons (3-2) return to action Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against Central Arkansas in the UCA Multi-Team Event in Conway, Arkansas. NSU will face Bethune-Cookman at 1 p.m. Sunday in the second game of the event.
