
Job Description: (Communication Officer 2)
Communication Officers are dispatchers who communicate via radio with Troopers and DPS Officers working in the field. They also receive calls for service from the public requesting assistance from Law Enforcement. Requires shift work, rotating days and nights, to include weekends and holidays.
Duties:
• Answer emergency and non-emergency calls
• Coordinate with other law enforcement agencies, fire, and
ambulance services
• Answer Hazardous Material calls after regular business hours
• Answer calls for State Fire Marshal’s Office
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio.
A high level of multi-tasking and typing skills is preferred but not required.
Substitutions:
Experience in clerical work will substitute for one year of required experience on a month for month basis. Training in a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute will substitute for the required experience on the basis of six months of training for six months of experience. Completion of a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute will substitute for the required one year of experience. College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of 15 semester hours for six months of experience.
NOTE:
Business or technical school training with less than completion will only be credited in six month increments. Similarly, college training will only be credited in 15 semester hour increments.
