Arrest made while deputies investigate domestic disturbance in Natchez

(Natchez)-A reported domestic disturbance on Wednesday in Natchez led to the arrest of a convicted felon and recovery of a firearm reported stolen in Bienville Parish according to Sheriff Stuart Wright.
 
On Wednesday morning, April 12, 2023 at approximately 9:35am, Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Operations Bureau responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex in the 100 block of Hwy. 119 in Natchez.
 
Deputies arrived on scene shortly thereafter.
 
Deputies say while investigating the alleged domestic disturbance, they learned that a person involved identified as Malando C. Kemp walked out of the apartment went to the rear of the complex and returned just prior to their arrival. Deputies also learned Kemp had been in possession of a firearm concealed in his backpack.
 
Responding deputies interviewed the victim while other deputies walked behind the apartment complex searching for evidence. Deputies discovered a Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun hidden between two central air units. A NCIC weapons check revealed the gun stolen in Bienville Parish. The weapon was confirmed as stolen.
 
Deputies made contact with Kemp and placed him under arrest without incident. A search of Kemp’s backpack led to the seizure of a couple of 9mm magazines.
 
Malando C. Kemp, 21 of Ringgold, was transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of a Felony. Kemp, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
 
Deputies say the victim of the alleged domestic disturbance was not injured. Kemp remains in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center awaiting bond. Bienville Parish will continue the investigation into the stolen firearm recovery.
