Kappa Alpha Psi Derby Day Party

The Natchitoches Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi will hold its inaugural Derby Day Party on Saturday, May 6 from 3-8 p.m. at Onyx Wine & Cigar Lounge.

The Kentucky Derby, the longest-running horse race held since 1875, attracts visitors from all over the world, earning the nickname “The Run for the Roses.” However, not everyone has the chance to attend the race in person, so cities across the country hold Derby Day parties to bring the experience close to home. The Natchitoches Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi will hold its inaugural Derby Day Party, the first of its kind in the area, featuring the race’s signature cocktail – the Mint Julep – and food catered by Legacy Cafe.

The event will provide attendees with an opportunity to showcase their finest spring attire and experience the atmosphere that the Kentucky Derby is renowned for. Ladies usually wear wide-brimmed hats and sundresses, while gentlemen typically attire themselves in pastel or seersucker suits. The Onyx Wine & Cigar Lounge, a new establishment in Natchitoches, will provide the perfect setting for the event, with both indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy the experience.

“Onyx is so excited to host the Derby Day Party, which will raise funds for the fraternity’s programs and initiatives. This will be an opportunity for everyone to get the first sneak peek at our new venue and to get a taste of the Onyx experience,” said Nicole Gray, co-owner.

Michael T. Snowden, the Derby Chair, emphasized the event will offer a sophisticated and adult atmosphere to celebrate and watch the race. The Natchitoches Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi hopes to start a new tradition in the area by hosting the Derby Day Party annually.
